Donations
NWFR is a non profitable volunteer group. Funding
comes from the group members, donations and a small number of commercial events
that are attended throughout the year. The group runs at a continual
deficit.
North Weald Airfield is owned and operated by Epping Forest District Council who now have an IER capability with NWFR operating as an independent group. NWFR closely cooperate with EFDC, training their staff and assisting with the IER service.
What are the costs
Appliances
The vehicles need to be fuelled, maintained and kept operational. Without operational appliances we would be unable to maintain the level of cover, equivalent to the CAA requirements at licensed airfields.
Equipment
Equipment needs to be maintained, tested and replaced. Without equipment such as hoses, branches (the bit added to the end of the hose which allows the water flow to be controlled), Fire Extinguishers and the Halon unit (essentially a VERY big fire extinguisher) we would be unable to provide an effective Fire and Rescue Service.
Training
Even the most basic of training sessions for NWFR members incurs costs, from the provision of fuel to run the appliances or to produce a ‘hot fire' to qualified first aid trainers.
PPE
(Personal Protective Equipment)
PPE is the basic fire kit worn to keep a fire fighter safe. The kit used must meet safety standards which are laid down by the CAA and comprises of fire boots (with steel toe caps), fireproof leggings, tunic, gloves, a flash hood worn under the helmet and the helmet itself. To be effective and offer the full protection required all PPE must be kept in good order. Currently the cost of PPE is borne by the individual member.
